General Maintenance-Facilities Hand

JOB DESCRIPTION

This position is responsible for a variety of tasks to ensure a facility is clean, safe, and operational. This includes general repairs, maintenance, and upkeep of building systems and grounds. Responsible for performing routine building maintenance tasks.   Performance of building maintenance tasks in one or more fields (e.g. carpentry; electrical; heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC); plumbing, general labor, etc.); Perform general cleaning.

You’re responsibilities and professional indicators include:

  • Conduct daily inspections of critical infrastructures (gates, cranes, pumps, air systems, etc.) to determine functional systems and detect malfunctions and needed repair making notes and recommendations.
  • Pressure wash building and facilities to maintain cleanliness and building appearance.
  • Basic reading, writing, math (addition and subtraction) and reading a tape measure.
  • Assist with Facilities/ Maintenance movements using Forklift.
  • Proficient in using hand and power tools, grinders, saws, drills, pressure washers, etc.
  • Secure buildings prior and following extreme weather conditions as needed.
  • Perform janitorial services inside and outside of the facility.
  • Perform minor electrical maintenance to include but not be limited to replacement or repairs of fixtures (e.g. wall switches and outlets, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs and tubes, ballast, sockets, fuses, minor appliances, cords, etc.).
  • Perform minor plumbing maintenance
  • Perform minor painting, carpentry and masonry work.
  • Reconfigure, install, position, and remount modular offices and spaces as needed (e.g. furniture, wall panels, work surfaces, storage bins, lighting, filing cabinets, etc.).
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on shipyard equipment, tools, and facilities.
  • Assist with dry dock operations, vessel launch and recovery, and general yard readiness.
  • Secure buildings and infrastructures prior to and following extreme weather conditions, as needed.
  • Support emergency repairs during off-hours or on weekends when needed.
  • Performs minor electrical maintenance to include but not be limited to replacement or repair of fixtures (e.g. wall switches and outlets, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs and tubes, ballast, sockets, fuses, minor appliances, cords, etc.) using appropriate hand, power and specialty tools.
  • Order parts and maintain required documents.
  • Performs minor plumbing maintenance (e.g. replacement or repair of leaks in drains and faucets, unclogging of drains, trenching and laying new lines, replacing drain hoses on washers and similar devices, etc.).
  • Reconfigures, installs, positions, and remounts modular offices and space (e.g. furniture, wall panels, work surfaces, storage bins, lighting, file cabinets, etc.) to accommodate user needs and maximize office space using various hand, power and specialty tools, dollies and hand trucks.
  • Complete daily maintenance logs and update supervisors on job status.
  • Coordinate with supervisors, engineers, and other trades as part of a team environment.
  • Performs other work related duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, if needed.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • 1-2 years of operating experience (Preferred).
  • 1-2 years of working in maintenance or facilities (Preferred)..
  • Mechanical knowledge: Familiarity with tools, fasteners, motors, pumps, valves, and other mechanical systems.
  • Electrical Systems: Ability to assist in basic wiring, lighting repairs, and troubleshooting low-voltage systems.
  • Plumbing: Basic knowledge of water lines, valves, fittings, and marine plumbing systems.
  • Welding and fabrication (basic): Understanding of metal repair, cutting, and grinding; able to support welders or fabricators as needed.
  • Carpentry and structural repair: Capable of handling minor wood, fiberglass, and steel repairs in facility or vessel structures.
  • HVAC familiarity: General understanding of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system components for routine inspections and support.
  • Proficient in using hand and power tools, grinders, saws, drills, pressure washers, etc.
  • Ability to operate forklifts, man-lifts, hoists, and basic yard vehicles (certification preferred).
  • Knowledge of basic rigging and lifting techniques.
  • Read and follow work orders, schematics, and instruction manuals.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Very Heavy work involves exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects, Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Heavy Work.

  • Operating a Motor Vehicle at Work: Driving any vehicle during the performance of duties.
  • Repetitive Movements of Elbows (Handling): Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands using the whole arm.
  • Repetitive Movements of Wrists: Picking, pinching, or otherwise working primarily with fingers and wrists rather than the whole arm as in handling.
  • Ability to push/lift minimum 100 pounds (power cleaning appliances); ability to lift minimum 50 pounds (trash and supplies).
  • Ability to climb ladder and step ladder.
  • Bending at the waist, sitting, kneeling, laying horizontally, climbing, walking, etc., as job may require.
  • Tolerance for working n outdoor environments including, extreme heat, cold, rain, and humid conditions.
  • Willingness to work around dust, fumes, loud noises, and occasional heights.
