LANDING CRAFT UTILITY
LCU Class 1700
Extended Functionality
Advanced Automated Systems
Overview
The LCU 1700 class is a replacement for the USN LCU 1650 with upgraded and modernized systems and capabilities. The craft has a Roll On/Roll Off configuration with hydraulically controlled bow and stern ramps that allow multiple vessels to mate up to establish a causeway/bridge to access extremely shallow unimproved landing areas. The craft will enter, exit and be transported in well decks of current and programmed U.S. Navy amphibious warfare ships, for design purposes defined by the dimensions of LHD, LPD, LSD and LHA classes without ship alterations, while transporting loads up to 11 feet high above the craft’s vehicle deck.
Swiftships’ LCU -1700 features improved propulsion systems and cargo capacity, lower cost maintenance, less crew required to operate, and smaller but more powerful engines to reduce fuel cost. Additionally we leveraged many similarities of these two classes of ships to improve efficiency and reduce cost of the training programs, operations and overall ownership cost.

LCU Programs with NAVSEA
Swiftships has been working with the US Navy (NAVSEA) since 2018. Firstly, we were contracted to design and build advanced LCU-1610 class landing craft utilities. Our dedicated and experienced engineering teams presented LCU-1700, a class with extended functions and improved vessels characteristics.
Currently, we are working on construction of 32 LCU-1700 vessels for the Navy and the Service Life Extension of multiple LCU-2000 Platforms for the Army. In addition, the US Navy awarded Swiftships a contract modification to design and build up to 32 additional landing craft utilities. We continue working on enhancing LCU with autonomous solutions and to further increase our support to the US defense missions.
How can we work together?
Of course, we can build your vessels in our location! But if for some economic or strategic reasons, you choose vessels’ construction at your location – Swiftships can provide you a full support. We have extensive experience working with international clients on co-production programs, and we offer customized solutions to meet your needs. Learn more…
Other Platforms
We design, build, integrate, and maintain naval vessels for multiple missions: from border protection to lower-intensity threat missions and high-demand or high-threat law enforcement scenarios.
