Dupre Marine Transportation has signed a contract with Swiftships to build two 75 foot steel tow boats with an additional two boat option. The two tow boats will add to Dupre’s existing fleet, providing expanded capabilities in coastal operations. The 75 foot tow boat will be USCG certified and have a 4 level superstructure with accommodations for 7 persons. Housing two engines generating 2,000 horsepower, this vessel will produce speeds in excess of 12 knots.
“We are very excited to expand our reach in the tug/towboat market,” said Jeff Leleux, President of Swiftships. “Swiftships has built a plethora of commercial steel and aluminum vessels throughout its 45 year history but has generally been recognized for its expertise in military shipbuilding. The last tug built by Swiftships was delivered in 1992 for the United States Air Force. Our experience in both the military and commercial market allows us to expand our portfolio as we showcase our capabilities in the promising commercial market.”
