Colonel John Alexander is a retired U.S. Army Special Forces officer with extensive experience in conducting worldwide counter-terrorism operations. His background includes over 20 years in the U.S. Army Special Forces, support to counter terrorism and WMD missions, and command of U.S. facilities in the Middle East providing security and logistics support during the Iraq War. He is currently an active businessman basing out of the Middle East and Washington, DC.
Colonel Alexander is a distinguished military graduate of the University of Colorado and a former National Security Fellow at Harvard University. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in political science and a Masters degree in military arts and science
His early military experience included time as an armor officer and command of two Special Forces units specializing in special reconnaissance and underwater operations. In 1991, he was selected for the unit commonly known as Delta Force, the highest priority unit in the United States military. Colonel Alexander served for nearly a decade in various Delta operational command and staff positions including assault squadron commander, Delta operations officer, Delta deputy operations officer, assault squadron operations officer, and assault and sniper troop commands during multiple tours of duty. These tours included combat tours in multiple theaters of operation.
He has also served various high level staff positions, including Chief of Operations for the U.S. Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) and Director of JSOC’s first Joint U.S. Interagency Task Force in Afghanistan, a model JSOC and the U.S. Intelligence Community has since replicated in multiple theaters of operation, contributing to hundreds of successful counter-terrorism operations worldwide.
Colonel Alexander is the former Commander of Area Support Group-Kuwait where he worked very closely with Kuwaiti Defense and Interior Ministries and political officials. He retired from that position in July 2008 and began working as a private business consultant in Kuwait for United States and Kuwaiti companies, focusing mainly on defense services and natural gas project development.
His decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star for Valor, two Bronze Stars for service, three Defense Meritorious Service Medals, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge (second award), the Master Parachutist Badge, HALO and Combat Dive Supervisor Badges, and the Special Forces Tab among others.
